We were all blessed when Joe brought Elizabeth into our family. She loved him so well and brought him so many joys. When we had our mini reunions in Bogalusa, Elizabeth was welcoming and patient, and eager to join in our antics, even on days when her health limited her energy and comfort. Rest in Christ’s peace, Elizabeth. We love and miss you.
Her and Joe were the best neighbors anyone could ever ask for.And I love spoiling them with many of homemade dinners. And they were always nice and the sweetest couple you ever met.Gonna miss them both.
When we think about Elizabeth, nothing stands out more than her love for Joe, and how clearly their love for each other was a blessing to our world. I remember especially, when we went to Bogalusa for our mini reunions, she was patient and helpful as we had frequent changes to our plans. Should we meet at the hotel; at their house, at a restaurant?… She was game, whatever we decided, even at the last minute. She put up with our delays and our long goodbyes, and kept smiling and welcoming us. Rest in the peace of Christ, Elizabeth.
Some of my favorite memories with Elizabeth were visiting her and Uncle Joe’s home. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the smell of paper and the comfort of family time around the table. Uncle Joe and Elizabeth always made sure we got a popsicle from the Swan man — mine was always the strawberry one with real fruit inside. She made the best pizza, too, and it became a regular thing when we visited.
My sister and I loved exploring their backyard that backed up to the creek — we always found little treasures there. Sometimes we even got to spend the night, and it felt like such an adventure. Elizabeth had a real eye for a good deal and absolutely loved her Goodwill finds. It wasn’t unusual to bump into her at the Covington Goodwill, or for her to proudly show us her latest treasures when we visited. She’d hold them up with a sparkle in her eye, sharing the bargain she’d scored. As a little girl, I was always so impressed by her — and by my Uncle Joe, too.
