Wanda Stegeman's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Wanda Holifield Stegeman, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left us on June 23, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on September 26, 1955, in the charming town of Laurel, Mississippi, Wanda was the cherished daughter of the late J.T. Holifield and Betty Alice Kellum Holifield Miller.
Wanda was a vibrant soul, known for her loving, outgoing, spontaneous, and notably loud personality that could light up any room she entered. Her laughter was infectious, her spirit indomitable, and her love boundless. A proud and devoted mother, she is survived by her son, William Stegeman-Penton, and her daughter, Stephane Stowell, along with her devoted son-in-law, Bruce Stowell. Wanda was a doting grandmother to her beloved grandson, Daniel Barta, who brought immense joy to her life.
Family was everything to Wanda, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She shared a special bond with her surviving brother, Timmie Holifield, and her sister, Debbie Cronk, and her brother-in-law, Mike Cronk. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Sandy Holifield, and a host of dear nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. Wanda is now reunited in heaven with her parents and her predeceased brothers, Jerry and Jimmie Holifield, whose memories she held dear.
Wanda's home was always filled with the comforting aroma of her extraordinary culinary creations. An avid cook with so many recipes, she was renowned for her delectable meatloaf and gumbo dishes, were the stuff of family lore, and her recipes continue to be a testament to her culinary prowess. Her kitchen was not just a place for cooking but a gathering spot for storytelling, laughter, and love—ingredients she believed were just as important as any spice or herb.
A true gardener at heart, Wanda found peace and joy in tending to her flower garden. Her garden was a reflection of her nurturing spirit—vibrant, lively, and full of life. She took delight in the simple pleasure of watching hummingbirds flit joyously around, a testament to her appreciation for the beauty of nature.
Those who knew Wanda will remember her as someone who embraced life with open arms and an open heart. Her spontaneous adventures and zest for life were an inspiration to all who knew her. She lived her life as if every day was a gift, a philosophy she passed on to her family.
As we bid farewell to Wanda, we hold close the memories of her love, her laughter, and her indomitable spirit. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will forever cherish the warmth she brought into their lives.
A celebration of Wanda's life will be held at the Bush Recreation Center in Bush, La from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM on September 26, 2026, where stories will be shared, laughter will resound, and the memory of Wanda's extraordinary life will be honored in true celebration.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Wanda's memory to be made to a charity of your choice, in honor of her generous spirit. Wanda Holifield Stegeman will be deeply missed but never forgotten, her spirit living on in each heart she touched.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Brown-McGehee Funeral Home of Bogalusa, who have served the family with compassion and dignity.
