Vernon A. Talley, 86, of Bogalusa, La, passed away at 9:32 p.m. on April 28, 2013, at his home, 11202 Highway 21 South, Bogalusa, La.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Brown- McGehee Funeral Home; 610 Avenue F., Bogalusa, La. The funeral service will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 24. Interment will follow the funeral at Lee's Creek Baptist Church cemetery. Pastor Charles Warren of Church of United Faith will be officiating.
Vernon was born in Isabel, La on September 9, 1926. He was the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Daniel Talley. He was married to Doris "Pap" Pierce Talley on July 3, 1946; they were married for 51 years before her death in 1997.
Vernon served in the U.S. Navy in World War II from 1943 – 1947. He earned the rank of petty officer. He retired from Boeing as an engineer. He enjoyed singing and visiting with family and friends. After retirement he loved raising cattle. He was also involved in the American Legion and VFW.
Mr. Talley is survived by his second wife of fifteen years Wanzie M. Bedwell - Jenkins Talley. His three children; Sandra Connors, Donna Hall, and husband Willard Hall and Grant Talley, and wife Pam. He was the adored grandfather to Jeffery Purvis (wife Lindsey), Jodi Byrd (husband Wade), Kelly Seal (husband Rip), Jennifer Wheat (husband Robert) and Garrett Talley. He is also survived by eight wonderful great-grandchildren (Seth, Macy, Drake, Caleb, Elijah, Ethan, Chloe & Celena), two step great-grandchildren (Mason & Miranda), a brother, Berkley Talley and a sister, Charlotte Little, and other family and friends.
Vernon A. Talley was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Edith and his wife Doris. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
