Patricia Lynn (Pat) Crockett Strickland's Obituary
Patricia Lynn (Pat) Crockett Strickland
After a long courageous battle with cancer, Pat Strickland left this earthly life for her home in Heaven. She passed away at 12:38 A.M. on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at Regency Hospital in Covington, Louisiana. Pat was a resident of Bogalusa and of West Monroe, Louisiana. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, family member, and friend.
Born in Bogalusa, Louisiana, on January 28, 1950, she graduated from Bogalusa High School and received a Master’s Plus 30 degree in Education from Southeastern Louisiana University at Hammond. She enriched the lives of all the students she encountered in her many years of teaching.
She was a member of Pettitt Memorial Baptist Church where she served as organist for many years and also enjoyed giving of her time and energy in other areas as well. She never missed an opportunity to witness to others, even through her struggles, and to share John 3:16 with those whom she met: “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Pat loved her God and her country, and her dedication to both was especially evident during the Christmas season and on patriotic holidays. Any color was fine with her -- as long as it was red -- and you didn’t have to know her for very long before you realized that about her.
She enjoyed traveling and was blessed to be able to visit various places throughout the world. She had a passion for shopping and took great delight in showering gifts on those whom she loved.
Blessed with many artistic abilities which included flower arranging, cake decorating, and handcrafts, Pat was very generous and loved sharing her talents with her church, her family, and her friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Wilfred L. Crockett and infant sister Lana Gayle Crockett.
She is survived by her husband Richard L. Strickland; two sons, Shane Strickland and Chris Strickland; one daughter, Rhonda Strickland, all of West Monroe; her mother, Mildred Crockett of Bogalusa; and two brothers, Gary Crockett and wife Linda Lemane Crockett of Alexandria, La.; and David Crockett and wife Terri of Raleigh, North Carolina; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Friday, August 5. at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home, continuing from 9:00 A.M. until services in the chapel at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 6. with Bro. Tommy Varnado officiating. Interment will be at Hillview Memorial Gardens.
Because of her unwavering faith in God, she exhibited a positive attitude, a quiet gentle spirit, and a special strength and dignity throughout her life which served as an inspiration to all who knew her. The impression she made and the example she set for the rest of us will be long remembered.
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing
