Larry Lloyd Ward's Obituary
Larry Lloyd Ward, 77, formerly of Bogalusa, Louisiana, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Southaven, Mississippi, passed away on September 12, 2015 in Ruston, Louisiana following a brief illness.
Larry was born on July 27,1938 in Bogalusa, Louisiana and was a 1956 graduate of Varnado High School. He moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1967 and received his BA from Louisiana State University in May 1972. Larry was employed through the years at several radio and television stations in Baton Rouge as a Broadcast Engineer. He spent his last years employed at Louisiana Public Broadcasting and retired in June of 2004. He was appointed chair of the Emergency Alert System for the state of Louisiana 1997-2000 and was instrumental in getting the Amber Alert system integrated in the State of Louisiana. He was a member of University Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
He is survived by his former spouse of 50 years, Mary Kenelly Ward of Spartanburg, South Carolina; his son Dr. John (Kim) Ward of Ruston, Louisiana; his daughter Dr. Lisa (Richard) Ward Weir of Spartanburg, South Carolina; his daughter Dr. Ashley Ward Fish of Pensacola, Florida and seven grandchildren; Anna Ward, Margaret Ward, Evan Ward, Forest Weir, William Weir, Annelise Weir, and Christian Fish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd William Ward and Lillie Mae Seal Ward.
Hobbies included being a part of the Amateur (Ham radio) operating community and a fan of aviation. He had received his pilot's license in 1961.
Visitation will be on Saturday, September 19th at 1:00 pm at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home chapel, Bogalusa, Louisiana and the funeral to follow at 2:00pm. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the charity of your choice. All correspondence will be received at the home of Ashley Fish, 10239 Grackle Court, Pensacola, Florida, 32507.
