Mr. George "Preston" Stringer's Obituary
George Preston Stringer
October 6, 1980 – August 14, 2023
“Though we depart from this life, we do not truly perish, for we live on in the hearts of those we leave
behind”
Preston was a resident of Covington, LA. He was born at Highland Park Hospital on October 6, 1980. On
August 14, at the age of 42, while surrounded by his loved ones at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans,
Preston went to be with our Lord & Savior. He was a native of Foxworth/Columbia, MS. and Bogalusa,
LA.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents: Joseph & Dixie Provost; grandparents: “Peck” &
Myrtis Fortenberry Stringer and Reverend JB & Addie Lee Turnage; and cousins: Stephen
Stringer and Shelly Dwight Turnage.
Preston is survived by two daughters: Makayla & McKenzie Stringer; one son: Awston Pierce
Holcomb; his mother: Darlene Stringer; father: Wayne (Katherleen) Turnage; one grandson: Mallox; two
sisters: Shranda Turnage & Resa McCain; two incredibly special people in his life: Crystal Gayle Holcomb
and Sawyer Wayne Holcomb-Hylton, whom he loved as his own; extended family: Charles Wayne & June
Holcomb; his significant other: Betty Calhoun & her children, Blaine, Brendan, and Bentley; step-children: Cade & Hadleigh Bourgoyne; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and loved ones.
Being a dad was one of Preston’s greatest accomplishments. He was both kind and admirable as a father
& father-figure. He adored children and held a special place in his heart for them. He was proudly
awaiting the arrival of his first grandchild, Mallox, who is expected in September. Preston was a
dedicated and hard-working man, who often referred to himself as a “jack of all trades, master of none.”
Though he suffered many health conditions, he was courageous and had a passion for life. He brought
light & laughter to those around him. Throughout life, Preston was always giving, and in the end, he
gave his final gift as a donor.
Pallbearers who will honor him are as follows: Doug Turnage, Dewayne “Dank” Turnage, Jeff Sharp, Awston Holcomb, Ricky James Smith,
Charlie Holcomb, Trent Temples, and Troy Crain. Honorary Pallbearers: Kevin Moore and Irvin "Pete”
Stringer, Jr.
