George Samuel Cowan Jr (aka Sam) was born in 1954 to Margaret Cavender Cowan and George Cowan Sr, in Fort Worth, Texas. He attended the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 1982, after which he went on to complet Read Obituary
Memories of my brother, Sam, bring me great joy. He was so kind, gentle and fun to talk to. We shared many phone calls where he told me all about our family tree. He enjoyed studying our genealogy and knew our ancestors in great detail. I am so thankful he taught me about them.
And it was energizing to “talk politics” with him. We were absolutely on the “same page” politically and he always knew the latest event and had an opinion.
I remember as a child running through “the woods” with him, laughing and playing. We all played hours in our back yard and, of course, there was the magic of “Turner Falls”
I am so proud he chose to practice medicine. What an accomplishment for a person that, as a child, used to “kick and scream “ when our mother made him sit and read for her.
He was a precious, dear brother that I loved very much. I will miss him terribly until I see him again.

Today I’m remembering Dr. George Samuel Cowan, a dear friend whose kindness and gentle spirit made every moment around him better. He had a quiet warmth that put people at ease, and a genuine compassion that showed in everything he did.
One of my favorite memories is the day I brought him to an eye appointment. What could’ve been an ordinary errand turned into a fun, memorable experience — full of easy conversation, laughter, and those small moments that stay with you long after. It’s those simple, shared times that remind me how grateful I am to have known him.
He touched the lives of so many, and I’ll always carry respect, admiration, and deep fondness for him.
He will be truly missed.
I remember playing in the sand box with 2 sisters and brother, George. We called him Sammy because his middle name was Samuel. He hated being called Sammy so, of course we did it all the more. He built tunnels in the sand to drive his small toy trucks. We had a great childhood.
