Mrs. Elva Jo Boyd Rogers Porter's Obituary
Elva Jo Boyd Rogers Porter, age 88, passed peacefully away, October 22, 2020, surrounded by her family at her former home in Bogalusa, LA.
She is survived by three children as son Jeffery Boyd Rogers, Sr. and his wife, Donna Landrum Rogers; a daughter Marsha Ruth Rogers, and another son David Wade Rogers. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jeffery Boyd Rogers, Jr. and his wife Shannon Rogers, John David Rogers, Jessica Lynn Rogers Lankford, and Jordan Kate Vidrine; great-grandchildren Jeremy James Rogers, Preston Fury, and Jude Smith, and Austin Walter Rogers; her siblings Walter S. Boyd, Lennie Sue Boyd Carhart, and Freddie W. Boyd. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
She is proceeded in death by her first husband Toxie Hall Rogers, son Todd Alan Rogers; her parents Walter Schuyley Boyd and Elva Jones Boyd, and her second husband, Richard Rand Porter.
Jo raised her four children staying home as a housewife. She was active in ESM Methodist Church and the lead soprano soloist for 54 years, a proud accomplishment. Toxie and Jo got actively involved in the antique business, opening shops in Rio, LA and Bogalusa, LA, along with setting up at two different markets in Louisiana and Mississippi.
She was a lifelong resident of Bogalusa. Toxie and Jo square-danced with the “Jeans & Queens” for many years, with her writing the newsletter that was published in the Daily News. She was also a seamstress and also catered events, being a very good cook.
She will be greatly missed Rest In Peace, Mom.
A memorial will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2020, @ ESM United Methodist Church, Bogalusa, LA. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM. Services will begin at 2:00 PM. Interment to follow at White Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery, Red Bluff, MS.
