Our story
Clyde F. Brown and Ila V. Brown opened Brown Funeral Home, Inc., in Kentwood, LA in 1933.
A second location was built in Bogalusa, LA in 1934 at 705 Avenue F. This location was lost in a fire on Dec. 4, 1945, and as a result, reopened at its current location in 1947 at 610 Avenue F.
In 1950’s, the second generation, Doris Brown McGehee and her husband, William M. McGehee joined the family business. The firm changed its name to Brown McGehee in the early 1960’s.
In 1969, a large addition to the building was completed to better serve the community including a Chapel to accommodate over 200 guests.
Ila Brown retired in 1969 and Doris Brown McGehee and William M. McGehee continued to manage the family business serving Bogalusa and surrounding areas until William M. McGehee’s death on September 2, 1992.
In December of 1992, Doris Brown McGehee sold the business to Mothe Funeral Homes, LLC, an independent, six generation, family owned business with over 116 years of funeral experience in Southern Louisiana.
Brown McGehee Funeral Home, LLC remains independently owned with local management and employees. The families in Bogalusa, LA and surrounding communities have put their trust in Brown McGehee Funeral Home for more than 78 years. During the most difficult time of need, we will continue to uphold the heritage, vision, and reputation of quality, sincerity, and trust for years to come.
