Mr. Richard Burge

March 23, 1937 - January 20, 2021

On January 20, 2021, after a brief illness, Mr. Richard Burge passed away at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette, La., at the age of 83. He was born in Bogalusa on March 23, 1937. Mr. Burge served in the Louisiana National Guard as a young adult and was active in a local Baptist church, serving as a deacon for many years. Richard worked as a firefighter in the years before working at the box factory in Bogalusa, where he retired after completing over 45 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Burge is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Brenda Thigpen Burge; two daughters: Shannon Wallon & husband, Dan Wallon of Atlanta, Georgia and Jana Dudley and husband, Joey Dudley of Lafayette, LA; seven grandchildren: Katie & Dr. Rohan Trievedi of Phoenix, Arizona, Kristen Wallon of Atlanta, Georgia, Lauren & Mike Janulewicz of New York, Daniel & Millie Wallon of Atlanta, Georgia, Zach & Hannah Dudley, Sadye & John Watts, Cassie & Holden David all of Broussard, La.; one great-grandson, Jonas Fox Wallon (Daniel & Millie’s Son); one sister: JoAnn & John Kerrie of Columbia, South Carolina; one brother-in-law: Bruce Roberts; one sister-in-law: Etta & Bernard Fortenberry; one niece: Mandy Roberts; and one nephew: Russell Roberts all of Bogalusa, La. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of their two daughters, Rowena Stewart Burge; his parents: Claude & Flora Burge; and a sister, Ginger Roberts. Pallbearers will be: Roy Miley, Zachary Dudley, Bruce Roberts, John Watts, Bill Nielson, and Holden David. Honorary Pallbearers are as follows: Daniel Wallon, Dr. Rohan Trivedi, and Mike Janulewicz. Pastors Kelly Penton and Jim Byrd will be officiating a private family service. Friends are invited to attend the graveside service at 2:45 PM on January 24, 2021 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Bogalusa, LA.
